Ngoenga School

Tenzin Jampa was admitted to Ngoenga School on 11th Jan, 2002. He was diagnosed of Cerebral palsy with right hemiplegic, hearing difficulty, severe physical disabilities, mental challenges, global aphasia and he is wheelchair bound. He is 28 years old now. He no longer uses a wheelchair, but his shuffling gait is not consistent and he looks for support. His severe epileptic attacks (sometimes 23 times a day) make him very weak. He has undergone minor surgery to remove corn from his feet which prevented him from walking. Despite the contracture in knee and achilles tedon, he walks independently. When speaking to jampa, he could hear the speeches but not able to respond verbally. Though he is unable able to do his toileting by himself, he can still eat by himself. He recognizes his home parents and family members well.

Penpa Dolma was admitted to our school on 13th Jan, 2002 and was diagnosed with severe spastic cerebral palsy with quadriplegia (affecting all four limbs) and right side dominant over left side. She was using a wheel chair. She had very little muscle power left in her limbs and speech impaired as the result of prenatal head injury. She is a bright and intelligent 16-year old student. She is left side hemiplegic with speech impairment. With gradual therapeutic exercise and with the cooperation from other staff members, she no longer uses a wheelchair for any mobility. She goes with one adult girl student (as she as poor balance) and to prevent any fall injury which might cause further secondary consequences. But she can walk independently with limping gait. She can do her partial ADL independently like toileting, brushing, writing, combing and dressing. Clinically her speech impairment is also known as Broca’s aphasia. In her case, she communicates by using sign language.

Tsering Chokyi was the first batch student who was admitted to this school and after staying here for three years, she has been trained for tailoring and sign language. Later, she made placement at our school as tailoring and sign language instructor and now she is a permanent staff member at our school and earning good salary to lead her life satisfactory. She is a proud mother of a daughter.

Chemit Rafpal was admitted to our school on 10 December 2007 with the problem of cerebral palsy and was on wheelchair because of not having independent movement. He is observed as a very slow learner with little speech problems too. With the efforts of our staff members and help from sponsors, the child is now walking with the help of a walker and out of the wheel chair! He needs less help while walking with a walker and a day may come for this child to walk independently by himself without any aids. We are hoping for the best and working for such a wonderful result or success.

Tenzin Ngawang was admitted in our school in 2000 with the problem of severe hearing impairment. We had admitted him to Bajaj Institute of learning at Rajpur and later passed class 10+2 through National Open School. He has shown great interest in learning traditional Tibetan Thangka painting and we could help him to get admission in vocational training centre of Tibetan Home’s Foundation at Mussoorie with special consideration. After 6 years of rigorous training, he stood 1st position out of 7 students and now he is capable of earning and works at Dekyiling Handicraft Centre in Dehradun.

Tsering Lhamo a hearing and speech-impaired girl, after passing class Xth board examination through open schooling, opted for the beautician course. She was admitted in Tibetan Vocational Training Centre at Selaqui to learn the course at free of cost. Now she is a married house wife.
