Ngoenga school is the one and only kind of special school for Tibetan community in exile directly run and managed by Tibetan Voluntary Health Association, through Department of Health, Central Tibetan Administration, Dharamsala. It renders rehabilitation and residential center catering mainly to the young physically and mentally challenged Tibetan refugees staying in India, Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet.
In 1997 His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama expressed his benevolent desire to establish a school for Tibetan children with special needs.The Department of Health with the seed money from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Men-Tsee-Khang (Tibetan Medical & Astro. Institute) established Ngoenga School for Tibetan Children with special needs with 26 students.The school’s name “Ngoenga” meaning extremely happy or joyous with sight was conferred by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Today Ngoenga School has 50 students with ranges of disabilities from Autism, Dyslexia, Epilepsy, Polio, Down syndrome, Mental retardation and Cerebral Palsy. They attend classes daily on the attractive campus. The Director leads the staffs that include Headmistress, Physiotherapist, Head parent, Nurse, Special Educator, Home Parents, Administrative and other staffs. Also volunteers contribute a lot in the development of school.
Education
Based on the ability of children, the classes have been arranged. At present, we have seven classes for children who have mental and behavior disabilities, children with the most profound disabilities....
Health
Our Physiotherapy unit comprises of two physiotherapist and an assistant. They work with the basic principle of respecting and empowering the child by focusing on the maximum recovery of children....
Welfare
We have five homes with ten children in each home and these children are looked after by two foster parents. In each home, they have a tape recorder to play music as autistic children love it .....

Donations can be also tax deductible in the USA when made through the Tibet Fund, 241 East, 32nd street, New York, NY 10016, USA. Our foreign contribution registration number is 182450016 dated 29th April 1985.
You can sponsor the entire cost or a portion of the cost of one child’s stay at Ngoenga School for one month, six months or one year.However, you may also choose to sponsor any amount. We only ask that you will not direct your sponsorship to any specific child as the length of stay for each child would be dependent on the gravity and nature of his/her problem and the financial situation of the family.
